Political and Issue Advocacy Counsel

Experience with Impact

Katie Monoc’s legal career was born of a passion for community betterment. As a Political Science major in college, Katie was the recipient of the Witherspoon Award for Outstanding Achievement in Political Science. Accolades like this launched her early career as a Program Director in the South Carolina House of Representatives, and then as a grassroots organizer in Washington D.C. It was in doing this fieldwork that Katie began to see that the root of her interest in politics was social justice, which lead her to enroll in law school and become an attorney who believes strongly in working toward the greater good in communities both small and large.

Katie’s experience in election law includes serving as general counsel for two gubernatorial candidates, among other state and local candidates. As a skilled litigator, she has capably handled election issues requiring litigation, such as candidate qualifications and election protest. In addition, she has assisted with voter protection in South Carolina since working as a field organizer in 2002 and has served actively as poll watcher and in boiler rooms since law school. Katie was also published in this area by the Charleston Law Review.

As a legal and ethical consultant for political and cause-related campaigns, Katie takes her years of political experience and applies it to her knowledge of the law. She will immerse herself in your campaign or cause and advise the candidate and/or broader campaign with an aim for compliance with South Carolina ethics. Monoc Law can advise regarding legal and ethical compliance for campaign strategies. Additionally, the firm can review ad campaigns on the front end, before any issues arise. Your issues and movements are important, and Katie can help develop a plan and structure to help move your needle forward for your organization.

Monoc Law’s campaign-related efforts focus on advising so as to prevent a legal or ethical breach. Katie recognizes sometimes things happen fast on a campaign with many players and moving pieces and parts, and you may need counsel based on issues which have already arisen. Monoc Law is equipped to help you navigate and counsel you through such dynamics, issues, or concerns. Beyond the ethical components of campaigns, Monoc Law is committed to providing you with supportive general counsel and advice for legal related issues that may arise, whether simple or complex.

Client Testimonials

Any result Monoc Law may achieve on behalf of one client in one matter does not necessarily indicate similar results can be obtained for other clients.

“Katie was invaluable as our campaign counsel. She not only reviewed contracts and ads and helped navigate HR challenges, but she was our point person for developing and implementing our voter protection program which was critical to our goal of ensuring every voter’s voice was heard.”
